Richard Running His Dad's #?
Ford always winning
Classic film!!! Richard , Lee & Kyle Petty from 60 years ago, in those AWESOME cars!!! It is so sad how Glenn 'Fireball' Roberts died from his burns from an accident in this race , some 5- werks after it took place... These people had and still have incredible courage.... Thank You for posting this....
BEGGARS BUDGET LMAO 😂
it is so sad , we can't have racing like that any more ,these great racers where the best !!!!!!!!!!!!
This is crazy to see no safety gear, I had. I idea it was like this back then.
I was a Riverside local as a kid in the 60's and 70's That track ate up alot of hot drivers!!
Richard in a Ford. He called Plymouth's hand and made them build a winged Plymouth for 1970. The Dodge Charger Daytona was already green lit in "69 but Plymouth balked and Richard left for one year. He was "winging it" in 1970! BTW~~~These old school drivers needed a peach basket in their cars to hold their balls.
Extraordinary how whoever controlled these tapings 50+ year's ago didn't allow him to also show the OTHER motorsport NHRA, AHRA, IHRA. It was just as big as NASCAR in the 60s and 70s. A real racibg fan back then liked ALL sanctioned body's.
Holman and Moody were also big in NHRA back in the 60s & 70s. And love the 65-66 Galaxies. I raced a 66 in NHRA ran best of 13:79 @ 98mph with 375 hp, not spectacular no but pretty peppy for a driver , i miss that car
Wasn't Joe Weatherly killed the same year.
That's racing not like today's
What engines were in those Fords?
Wish we had a dlc like that in NASCAR heat 5

Gotta love the cheesy sound effects.
The 'King' pulling pit crew duties, lol
Simply the best era of NASCAR in my opinion! I like all the stock car racing from 1948 to the early 2000's but in my eyes the peak was 1967 to 1971. They really had everything going for them, the best looking cars, the best drivers, the best racing, the best EVERYTHING! If I were to build a time machine, I would go back to those years just to see those races over and over and over again! Awesome video!
Totally agree … NASCAR is now dead … Rip 🪦…
Never knew the King ever drove the 42 Very strange watching this
"Tragically, Weatherly died in the crash" *upbeat 80s pop music continues*
Is George AlsoBrooks wreck here?
Nope.
Can spout at 3:15. Ive still got one in my toolbox for some silly reason. I pull it out every once in a while and confuse the young techs 🤣
My classic car has a good set of vids on the hemi and according to one of the engineers the engine was not available to the public at race time, interesting, also the Fords look a good 25% larger. prob why ford used the fairlane in 67.
12:58 His father didn't. Johnny Beauchamp rolled into the winner's circle but didn't win. He also may have been a lap down.
This is what stock car racing was all about. Using production made car's from the automaker's doing necessary modactionto make them safe to run unlike the crap the have now. They, the old timer's are the real stock cars and driver's
Cool! Oh the days when what they raced on Sunday . Looked like the car you could buy on Monday

what is this music called 2:45
Richard Petty always had best cars and parts alot of those wins he wouldn't have happened once he was on a level playing field he didn't win much if at all.
Ole Fireball Roberts Sure knew how to wheel a car!! Terrible tragedy what happened to him
Imagine todays drivers with no piwer steering no rear spoiler bias ply tires, & NO spotter
Chief
Petty, Pearson , Yarborough, Allison. Heroes of my childhood.1970’s Golden Age of NASCAR.We went to all tracks in North Carolina my home State. I still remember Darrel , he was a very outspoken driver. Fans were not happy with him. But he proved himself on the track. He finally won the acceptance of the fans.
There should be a world 1,000

I was a 5yr old kid in 66, as i sat in the stands at Riverside International Pop told me to pick a driver to root for, i picked the 43 car & ive alway's been proud because nobody called him "King Richard" in 1966! 😉 Anyone know the backstory on why Richard was running Lee's 42 number?
he switched numbers with Jim paschal
still my favorite 500...
Fireball Roberts and Dave McDonald were both killed in races later that year, Roberts in s NASCAR race at Charlotte, McDonald a week later at Indianapolis.
Every year in September they raced the Southern 500. Always under the threat of rain....so many races were shortened
WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE. NASCAR IS STILL RELEVANT AND BETTER THAN EVER.
